Find Your Lost Phone

Find Your Lost Phone

I remember when I got my first job, my goal was to buy a smart phone and for several months, I saved every penny that I could Then I bought a second hand Samsung S4 from my cousin. Man, that was the proudest moment of my life. I spent days admiring my phone, going through every App that was in that phone. I showed it off to anyone who glanced my way, “I bought the latest S4, it’s such a beautiful phone, do you want to see it?’’

I’d volunteer to take photos and videos of my friends and just to show off, you know, I had to let them know that I had a big phone. Samsung S4 was a big deal, in the shops, it was going for 80k, that was a lot and my salary was nowhere near the quarter of that. One Saturday noon, I was going to a party on Ngong road, I was in a matatu along Haile Selassie when my friends called me, I answered and before I could say hallo, my phone was running away, literally. Some guy snatched my phone and make a break for it. I watched him with such defeat as he snaked through the traffic. I f I knew then what I know now, maybe I could have recovered my adored phone.

Did you know that you can trace the location on your phone on android.com/find? I didn’t know either and by the time I gave up, the cops had eaten a few of my hard earned thousands. The feature is very simple to activate on your phone. Go to your phone and scroll down to biometrics and security, then select find my phone. There are three options; remotely locate your phone, allow remote lock and factory reset. Select the option that you want and you are good to go.

If this fails, you can report the IMEI number to the nearest Police post, they will check when the phone was last used, delete data and produce a location map with a six-figure grid reference. We can help you with DCI follow-up once you have the OB.

For every 10 lost reported phones, 5 are recovered by the DCI.

MacBook’s, IPhones and  IPads are easier to locate since their security walls are harder to crack.

With the evolution of technology, phones have become the smartest gadgets in the world. You basically walk with an office in your hand, with the many Apps that have been developed, there is nothing that you can’t do with your phone, well except falling in love, wait, you can on social media.
